Ethiopia Shares e-GP System Advancements With 3rd Nigerian Delegation

(Oct. 9, 2026 |Addis Ababa) -The Federal Public Procurement and Property Authority (FPPPA) hosted a high-level public sector delegation from Nigeria today for a 3rd round of experience sharing focused on Ethiopia’s Electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) system.
The visit served as a study tour for Nigerian officials to learn from Ethiopia’s digital transformation in public financial management, transparency, and market competition.
Delivering the welcoming speech and main briefing, Mr. Yafet Mekonin, e-GP Project Manager at FPPPA, welcomed the Nigerian delegates and presented key operational achievements and reform strategies driving the platform. He highlighted that the e-GP system serves as a foundational component of the national Digital Ethiopia initiative, driven directly under the executive agenda of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.) to build a modern digital economy.
During his presentation, Mr. Yafet emphasized that digital transformation requires more than technology alone, rather it needs Legal & Regulatory Foundation, Institutional Ownership & Capacity Building, Standardized Bidding Documents, infrastructure and other crucial things to sustain. He maintained that the ultimate goal of e- GP is Value for Money.
Updating the delegation on deployment progress, Mr. Yafet reported that 100 percent of Federal Budgetary Institutions have fully implemented the e-GP platform. At the regional level, three regions are currently operating in the pilot stage, while the remaining seven regions have adapted the framework and are preparing for full rollout.
The session concluded with the Nigerian delegation commending Ethiopia’s rapid progress in digitalizing public procurement, noting that the experience provides valuable practical insights for public sector reform and financial governance in Nigeria.
