Training has Been Given on Government Procurement Initiative (GPI)

United State of Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) has delivered a three days training in collaboration with Gorge Washington University on Government Procurement Initiative (GPI) to procurement professionals of Public Procurement and Property Administration Agency and different Federal Offices on October 13-15/2015 at Capital Hotel conference Hall here in Addis Ababa.

Ato Tsegaye Abebe Director General of the Public Procurement and Property Administration Agency addressed in his key note speech; the purpose of this training is increasing the efficiency, fairness, and transparency of the expenditure of public resources is critical to sustainable development and the reduction of poverty.

The General Director stated; in Ethiopia out of the total Government resources, procurement of goods, works, and services constitute a major share (60% to 70%) of public expenditure. That is why efficient and value for money procurement continue to be a major factor in the achievement of the second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTPII); which is expected to be realized in the coming five years 2015-2020.

In addition Ato Tsegaye also said this important training, which USTDA delivered in collaboration with George Washington University Government Procurement Program, through a strategic partnership with Public Procurement and Property Administration Agency (PPA) will go a long way in meeting our objectives to create a critical mass of qualified procurement staff in Ethiopia and USTDA  to continue its support by offering additional opportunities, as it would help to enhance our efforts to professionalize the procurement function champions by our Agency and Ethiopian Civil Service University.

Finally The General Director recognized the efforts of FPPAs’ staff and officials of the American Embassy in Addis, who have worked as a counterpart with USTDA.

During the training questions and comments has been raised by participants and answers were given by Trainers.

In this three days training 100 trainees of PPAs’ and different Federal Offices Procurement Professionals’ were participated.
